NAPT partners with Canterbury Park Forge

The North American Poker Tour (NAPT) / PokerStars have recently announced a new partnership agreement with the Canterbury Park Racetrack and Card Casino.  The Shakopee Minnesota casino, and its featured poker room, though did not announce any event taking place there.  Instead they have announced that they will hold several super satellites tournaments for NAPT events.  This includes a satellite for the main event for the NAPT Los Angeles stop which takes place at the Bicycle casino from Nov 12-17, 2010.  One $7000 NAPT LA main event package will be awarded for every $7000 in buyins.  The super sat has a $100+20 entry fee.  The first satellite will take place October 21, during the Canterbury Park’s Fall Poker Classic tournament series.

New NAPT stop … The Bike

The PokerStars.net North American Poker Tour (NAPT) today announced the addition of a new stop to its Season 1 schedule. The NAPT will visit beautiful sunny Southern California for NAPT Los Angeles, a festival scheduled for November 12 – 17, 2010 at one of the largest poker rooms in the world, the incredible Bicycle Casino, aka ‘The Bike’.

The festival will feature a five-day Main Event with a US$5,000 buy-in. There will also be a broad range of fun and exciting side events catering to players of all bankroll levels.  Unfortunately the NAPT Los Angeles ME at the bike will be a non-televised event.

Also PokerStars pro Vanessa Rousso will be holding “The Art of Poker: An Intermediate Guide to Tournament Theory” workshop.

So the NAPT is going back to the west coast to continue their series.  It was widely rumoured that an LA stop was a must, but the problem with the date is

1) It’s sooooo late, the wsop series is ending mid July (not including the final table).  Even if players take August off, what happened to stops in September or October?

2) This completely interferes with the British Columbia Poker Championships (BCPC) which usually runs during the same time period.  This puts dampers on the prospect of a 2010 North American Poker Tour stop in Canada.

Perhaps I am overlooking the fact that this is simply “a new” stop and not the next stop, then hopefully there will also be a Vancouver stop before or after NAPT Los Angeles or NAPT The Bike whatever this event will be nicknamed.

Jason Mercier wins the NAPT Mohegan Sun $25k High Roller Shootout

Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier is the newest NAPT event winner by taking down the 2010 NAPT Mohegan Sun $25,000 High Roller Bounty Shootout event.  Jason will take home $350,000 (plus $125,000 in bounties) for winning the final table which also consisted of Sam Stein, Luis Vazquez, Matt Glantz, Faraz Jaka, and Shawn Buchanan.  Note that this is Stein’s second NAPT headsup loss after finishing second in the inaugural NAPT Venetian main event.

The headsup match was pretty much decided by one crucial flip, as Mercier’s 33 manged to hold against Stein’s AJs even after Sam spiked a Jack on the flop.  Turn and river completed a six high straight for Jason and the match ended a couple of hands later.  The win marks Mercier’s second high roller title in as many years.  The 23-year-old also won the 2008 EPT London High Roller Event (£516,000) and came close to winning a third high roller title back in February at the L.A. Poker Classic (3rd – $141,780).

Congrats again to the newest North American Poker Tour winner Jason Mercier.

PokerStars has also announced that The next stop on the inaugural season of the North American Poker Tour will be announced soon.  Stay tuned!

Vanessa Selbst wins NAPT Mohegan Sun Main Event

Vanessa Selbst is now $750,000 richer after winning the inaugural NAPT Mohegan Sun event.   Vanessa bested over 700 players including final table participants, Michael Beasley (not the Miami Heat player, whom she beat headsup), Scott Seiver, Derek Raymond, Cliff “JohnnyBax” Josephy, and Jonathan “FatalError” Aguiar.  Ms. Selbst also becomes the first female NAPT winner, a mark that will remain in poker history for life.

Vanessa Selbst is a poker coach and instructor at popular poker training site DeucesCracked.  Even though Deuces Cracked is more known for it cash game training, hopefully “fslexcduck” will provide more valuable insight on how she dominates tournament poker.

Congrats again on this dominating performance, and cheers to the winner of the 2010 NAPT Mohegan Sun
